The “new world” was never new. People had lived here since time immemorial. And now that it’s no longer new, most people who live on this continent haven’t even traveled to most administrative subdivisions of their home countries.

I’ve had the fortune to live in North America and have friends from Latin America. I’ve visited most of the states, provinces and territories in the U.S. and Canada, but only had a cursory look at South America so far. While my phone plan includes unlimited use in Mexico and monthly roaming quotas in most of South America, I have yet to find the courage to visit countries mired in political instability without the right language skills.
