Up front: It’s not a sporty car, it’s a sports car. You’re sitting on the floor, legs stretched out, and arms trying to reach the controls. The seating position for anything below the waist is great, but anything above the waist is designed for very specifically proportioned people. I had my friend’s little brother sat in the passenger seat for a couple of trips and he loved it because he was a kid in a convertible.

The materials aren’t cheap, but you can tell that it’s closer to the quality of a Mazda MX-5 than a BMW Z4. Most of the money during development had been put into making this a fun car, not a nice car. If you’re looking fro something to show off to your friends, this common rental upgrade won’t turn any heads, but the 10-second retractable roof lets you enjoy all the sunshine you can get.

In the back: Terrible. I tried to put myself in the back and all of my was squished up against something. The front passenger would have their knees up against the glovebox for to fit a small adult in the back. I don’t even know why they bothered with the second-row seats, a larger trunk would’ve been nice.

Speaking of a trunk, there isn’t much of one. The opening is too small to fit a full-size suitcase and the folded roof takes up a large chunk of storage space. The boot is also awkwardly shaped making it hard to fit box-like items neatly into it without leaving unproductive gaps. Getting rid of the nominal rear seats should be an optional upgrade for the convertible.

Driving: Ford did a terrible job reinforcing the chassis of this roofless sports car. The engine can handle high speeds but the body twists uncomfortably on the highway making it feel like handling a firm hunk of jelly reinforced with toothpicks. Its uninspiring on twisty roads and the ride quality is only mediocre even on the highway in summer. The tiny fuel tank makes it an inconvenient road trip choice, I barely managed 300 miles per tank driving it the way it was designed to be driven.
