What’s a farm doing in the middle of Ottawa? It’s the  Central Experimental Farm attached to the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. It’s about a third petting zoo, a third agricultural science, and a third agricultural innovation.

After looking at honey and bees inside the museum, visitors are treated to freshly made honey granola in the experimental kitchen. Then, there’s the all-important gallery on soil, a material that feeds and clothes everyone. It celebrates scientists who made massive contributions to understanding soil, but doesn’t talk about the dangers facing our shrinking soil supply.

It’s not cheap, but animals, crops, and barns can’t be cheap to keep.
