Comfort

The lie-flat seat with a mattress topper, blanket, and a pillow is hard to beat for a red-eye domestic flight. The bed, when fully reclined, is long enough to comfortably fit an overweight 6-foot tall man, as evidenced by the person across the divider from me. I appreciated the many storage cubbies for headphones, water bottles, and a personal bag. Air Canada’s B787-9 has an identical layout.

My seat was inoperable as the mini-touchscreen for the seat controls wouldn’t turn on, so I requested a software reset. It finally turned on just after takeoff with two resets. The mattress topper was warm and the inflatable mattress had a weak massaging feature through air bags. My bulkhead seat had slightly more footroom, so I could sleep sideways comfortably. I drooled on the pillow.

In-flight entertainment

The large 14-inch touchscreen is so far away it has its own touchscreen remote. The remote control with gaming buttons makes it easy to play games on the large screen. I didn’t watch anything on this red-eye flight other than a few minutes of live TV just to try it out as I just wanted to catch some sleep. Free texting and messaging was available via wi-fi on mobile devices, but full-feature internet comes at an additional cost.

Food

Air Canada’s signature parsley omelette was the only hot breakfast option with a fruit platter on the side. I’ve had the parsley omelette so many times it’s almost comical, yet it’s still so good. The wine selection was tasteful. Options like the Jaillance Crémant de Bordeaux Brut and Austrian Pittnauer Heideboden Blaufränkisch are hard to find in Ontario.

Service

Excellent as usual. Bottled water and breakfast menus were promptly distributed, and bedding plastics were removed. Breakfast was prompt and as close to landing as possible to allow as much sleep as possible which I appreciated.
