There’s no place to have Buffalo wings like at Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo which invented the dish. Hundreds of license plates hang on the walls that the restaurant claims are from visitors all over the world – just don’t ask how they drove back home without plates. Be sure to go in as soon as it opens at 11 am to grab a table because it gets really busy past noon on a weekend.
The wings are good but the sauces are even better. The chicken isn’t too fat but it also isn’t too dry, even the boneless breast bits are tender and easy enough to chew on. The blue cheese dip is a must-try, but their strange spicy chicken wing soup, which is just creamy chicken soup with shredded chicken wing meat, is forgettable.
Service is relatively fast and you always get more chicken than what you paid for. Perfect for a bargain hunter, but not so good if you wanted to try different flavours without wasting food.
