Balzers is the southernmost city in the tiny country of Liechtenstein just a ten-minute drive away from its capital Vaduz. The village is so far south that it is surrounded on three sides by Switzerland where just one road connects it to the rest of the country. The village is host to Liechtenstein’s one and only heliport, which is also its only air transport facility since there is no airport in the country.

The Gutenberg Castle was built in the 12th century and it takes a hike to get to the top. When you look out down below from the castle terrace, you’ll notice that the village is so small that most of what you see is in neighbouring Switzerland. The nearby stone-built St. Nicholas Church is somewhat of a local landmark with a large park around it.
