The Montreal Barbie Expo is the largest collection of Barbie dolls in the world. With over a thousand dolls and free admission, this unassuming exposition in a small shopping centre is not to be missed.

Apart from the newer Fashionista dolls featuring figurines in wheelchairs and with prosthetic legs, there are also the classic jewelled princesses and famous people – Frank Sinatra is my favorite. The highly commercial nature of the toy also comes out in the rows of branded dolls from Campbell’s alphabet south to supercar manufacturer Ferrari.

Dolls are arranged in fit rows of ten along the walls with dioramas of fitting rooms, classy soirees, and fashion show runways around a central water fountain. It’s fantastic to be plastic.
