I wanted to do a quick visit to Buffalo just before Christmas, but the border closed before I could go. So, I got a refund for my ticket to the Buffalo Botanical Gardens and credit for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House tour. The gardens open in the morning and I think that’s the best time to go. Start the day with nature indoors. It rained when I was there, so I could be outside without being outside.

There are 12 houses, all interconnected, with different themes of plants. There’s a koi pond with big fishes, a goldfish tank with little fishies, and fake alligators in the Floridian mangrove house. I really like odd plants so I spent a lot of time in the cactus house and the carnivorous plants gallery. Apparently, they have to feed insects into the carnivorous plants.
As you walk through, you’ll find bridges over the bonds, sculptures amid flowers, and old people doing an elderly-oriented guided tour of botany. It’s a nice place to be.
