Built in 1963 to receive signals from the first generation of NATO military satellites, the Canadian Space Services Carp station was decommissioned in 1999 and sold to a private company for space research. The large dome measures 68 feet across housing a 50-foot radar. Today, a variety of researchers and universities use the military-grade facility to look for signals in space.

It’s next to the Diefenbunker nuclear apocalypse bunker. The dome’s function and architecture reminds me of Berlin’s Teufelsberg, which was built by the US National Security Agency to spy on East Germany during the Cold War.
It’s very expensive to maintain a facility with so many motors and rails needed to move the giant dish. You can book the place for a private event starting at just $300, I found online, but no guarantees that you’ll make contact with aliens.
