After writing about the best gelato in Vancouver and the best ice cream in Seattle, I just have to write about the best ice cream in Ottawa. Carp Custom Creamery offers classic American flavours like lemon blueberry, double vanilla coconut, and chocolate fudge with the consistency of good Italian gelato.
Although it’s located in a small village called Carp, about a half-hour drive west of Ottawa, the community has been amalgamated into the capital city in 2001. Nearby Alice’s Village Cafe serves excellent salmon sandwiches. Their chips are too salty for my taste, but their daily soup offers are reasonably priced.
