Lake Lafarge

Far out right? Nope, not anymore. Ever since the Evergreen extension to the Millenium Line opened, Coquitlam is only a 45-minute ride away from downtown Vancouver by SkyTrain. The quickest way of course, is by West Coast Express, which only takes about 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, but only runs five trains a day in that direction. I don’t really know where the line between Coquitlam and Port Moody lies, so I’ll just assume I was in Coquitlam.

Lake Lafarge is a beautiful park surrounded by trees and a gravel walking trail around it. If you have a fishing license, you are allowed to fish on the lake. It does freeze during winter so it could even be a great destination for ice skating! There are plenty of community facilities in the area such as a cultural center, an aquatic center, and a police station.

Dense residential areas far from the station

One thing that did irk me though was the poor transit planning. The Lafarge Lake-Douglas station is in the middle of nowhere and not near anywhere people need to go. But the high-density residences just two blocks south of the station have no rail transit access. How are people supposed to get to where they want to go if the SkyTrain doesn’t stop where they live?
