Sudbury is known to be the world’s largest producer of nickel in the 20th century, producing over 90% of the world’s nickel supply for stainless steel. Other metals such as palladium, copper, and gold are also found in its igneous rock.

Dynamic Earth, sponsored by mining companies in the region, is a museum dedicated to the history and operation of mines in the city. It’s right on the edge of a large nickel mine and has a tunnel going underground. If you come to Dynamic Earth, you have to book a guided tour to the tunnel and learn about the development of mines over the centuries.

Outdoors, a kids park is littered with retired industrial equipment from the mine so children can play in them and adults can learn from the informative signs. Inside, there are plenty of interactive exhibits inviting visitors to touch exhibits. The iconic Big Nickel is right next to the museum.
