Just like Konstanz, Friedrichshafen is a little city on the German side of Lake Constance and frequented by Swiss cross-border shoppers to take advantage of low prices and great selections. Conveniently, the largest Edeka in Freidrichshafen is just a stone’s throw away from the ferry pier so shoppers can spend as soon as they arrive. Supergeil!
Shopping aside, Friedrichshafen is famous for being the home of the Zeppelin where the infamous Hindenburg departed for its fateful voyage. The Zeppelin Museum is highly recommended with a replica of a section of the airship and information on how the wealthy traveled in the interwar period. Many of the exhibits are interactive with touchable sections of airship fabric and mini-experiments on the physics of airships.

When you’re done, take a walk along the Uferpromenade to reach the beautiful Schloss-Steg perfect for wedding photos. Done with the photos? Get married in the nearby Evangelische Schlosskirche built in splendid baroque style. There’s also a rather peculiar school museum in the area.

Back in the centre of the old town, Adenauerplatz, named after the first chancellor of postwar Germany, Konrad Adenauer, you’ll find the Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus and plenty of discount stores for thrifty Swiss shoppers. In the evening, have a beer by the lake as you watch sunset and wait for your ferry home.
