Both amateurs and professionals I like perform at the Geneva music festival every summer during June. With over 400 programs or 30 different venues over one weekend in 2019‘s edition it is an event that is not to be missed.
Between its many modern classical and contemporary performances, it is the perfect opportunity to explore your own personal musical tastes. Maybe listen to ethno music that you never heard of or go back to the jazz that you always loved.
Apart from live performances on stage, in tents, and outdoors, musical films were also shown in theaters. Best of all – everything is free. Thanks to this festival, the music that was once reserved for the elites or a niche market is now accessible to all.
In the Bastion Park where there are multiple outdoor venues, you jazz blends into rock music as you walk across the park from east to west. Hungry? Grab some Argentinean food. Thirsty? Down a sangria.
Geneva is such a small city you will always bump into friends. If not, make some with those who have the same musical interests as yourself. My favorite event was a Baroque musical in the first Lutheran church in Geneva. The cozy atmosphere and warm hearted musicians invited the audience to ask questions to learn more about their unique instruments.
That was just wow.
