Or the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum, named after the famous Grimm brothers who wrote fairy tales such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, and The Red Cap (Little Red Riding Hood). This is a fitting name for a central library of the university that once managed the German State Library – Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
Because I had my own motorcycle, I didn’t need to come to the library too often in between classes. I could just as easily ride home, cook lunch, and ride back to class all in the span of a 2-hour gap. By train and bicycle I lived 45 minutes away, but by motorcycle I lived just 25 minutes away regardless of the traffic situation.
There was, however, one facility that really drew me to the library – the Mensa canteen. I could park right outside the building, have lunch with my friends, and then head back to class. I’d always get just fusilli, just that, because it only cost €0.65 regardless of how much you piled onto your plate. Then, I’d get the free salad dressing on the salad bar to lather up the pasta in a nice moist sauce.
