Back in December 2019, an announcement was made that Canada’s first Interprovincial zip line was slated to open in Ottawa in the summer of 2020. But the opening was delayed to 2021 when the pandemic hit Canada. Happily, the planned new opening date went on without a hitch and visitors glided happily across from Ontario to Quebec all summer long.
I had to buy a ticket way back in May to secure a spot this year, then selected my appointment in June for a time slot in July. It’s probably the most preparation I’ve done for a 30-second activity. Visitors have to arrive a half-hour early to receive a safety briefing, check in the items in their pockets, and put on safety equipment. They’re then herded over from the Quebec side of the Ottawa River to the Ontario side to climb the zip line tower before sliding down back to Quebec.
It rained on my visit so the video quality isn’t perfect, but the winds did add an extra dimension to the experience. My particular harness angled left as soon as I let go so I got a better view than most people. Yes, you are allowed to let go if you dare to. I felt like a baby being cradled in a soft bag, it was quite comfortable.
