Narrow streets of Ipoh

Halfway between Kuala Lumpur and the Thai border, Ipoh is a relaxing town in the middle of the Malaysian jungle. The narrow streets are difficult to navigate but really make you slow down and enjoy the charming local shops and colonial architecture.

The best way to explore this town is definitely by foot or bicycle. Zoom around in a car and you might just miss the beautifully painted murals on building walls. They look just as if they have come alive!

Do visit the old town to take a look at the railway station building, the city hall, and other colonial-era monuments built by the occupying British forces. The local government’s efforts to conserve its historical buildings have paid off and they look as if they were built yesterday!

Ipoh is in the middle of West Malaysia so you can get from there to other parts of the country with ease. The KTM Komuter train there whizzes passengers between Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur in about 2 hours. You could also head north from here to Georgetown in 2 hours as well.
