The cucumber vs dill pickle debate is, perhaps, less popular than the choice between hickory BBQ and old-fashioned BBQ. The first that that struck me was the lack of any vegetable ingredient (apart from vegetable oil and perhaps some herbs in seasoning) in either flavour.

It’s really a love-it-or-hate-it situation. I loved the dill pickle flavour for its slight zesty sourness but hated the cucumber flavour for tasting like minty bubblegum. Neither of these are as good as just having the real thing, so why not just go buy a jar of pickles or a pack of fresh cucumbers?

Dill pickle

Imitation: 8/10. Smells like a pickle, tastes like a pickle.
Desirability: 5/10. It’s a love or hate kind of flavour, you either create it or are repelled by it.
Crunch: 6/10. Feels thinner, but perhaps it’s the lighter vegetable-themed taste.
Texture: 7/10. Feels nice.
Appearance: 10/10. Slightly translucent, the strips of flavouring powder look mystifying.

Total: 36/50. It’s weird but I like it.

Cucumber

Imitation: 1/10. Smells like a cucumber, tastes like bubblegum.
Desirability: 1/10. The bubblegum aroma and minty aftertaste is an instant turnoff.
Crunch: 6/10. Just a regular crisp.
Texture: 7/10. Lots of folded crisps in this bag, very nice on the teeth.
Appearance: 8/10. Looks like any other crisp with green spots on it.

Total: 23/50. I threw this bag away after 5 bites.
