Bombardier makes planes in Toronto, Ski-Doos in Valcourt, and train parts in Kingston. The Bombardier Museum in Valcourt, Quebec, is Canada’s version of the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation in Detroit.
Visitors start by watching two 15-minute long videos that introduce the life of Joseph Armand Bombardier and the company’s growth after his death. When the oil crisis hit, the company suffered a massive decrease in sales, so they were encouraged by the mayor of Montreal to submit a bid to build metro trains for its new system. Bombardier won and used expertise from manufacturing trams in Austria to make rubber-tired metros trains.
The museum has snowmobiles, trains, and a flight simulator for visitors to interact with. Most of the exhibits at the waist level are touchable.
