Shuttling locals between Boudry and Neuchâtel in French-speaking Switzerland, the Littorail is the last remaining line of the once-mighty Neuchâtel tramway system. Designated as an inter-urban tram, it can travel up to 70km/h along the Neuchâtel Lake!

Speaking of the lake, it is one of the few ways that you can enjoy the Neuchâtel Lake and its green lakeside parks without exerting any effort. The drivers are really human too, they would wait for passengers to cross the road and board before leaving the station and at the midpoint the two trams wait for a moment to allow passengers to go back in case they missed their stop.

It’s a great way to meet locals and look at what life is like in rural Neuchâtel. Along the way you’ll pass industrial complexes, family farms, a military facility and a small hydroelectric dam. Feel free to get off at any point along the lakeside park for a picnic or bring your bicycle if you only want to go one-way but want to ride back the other way.

Another inter-urban tram like this can be found as the S18 in Zürich, also known as the Forchbahn.
