San Francisco’s famous Lombard Street is much longer than just the squiggly bit with eight bends, it goes all the way from the Presidio Boulevard, through the hill where Coit Tower is, to Pier 27 on the shore. Tourists love to drive down the curvy bit of the road, and I have done so too in GTA San Andreas. There are two cable tram lines crossing Lombard Street on Hyde Street and Columbus Avenue, but it’s so close to other attractions that walking is often faster than queuing for a ride.

Dwayne Johnson, playing a rescue helicopter pilot, instructed his family to gather at Coit Tower after an apocalyptic San Andreas Fault earthquake. Elevator tickets to the top cost $10, but I thought the view on ground level at the top o Telegraph Hill was just fine. Save your money, especially on a foggy day. It was built with funds donated by Lillie Hitchcock Coit who bequeathed her wealth to the city upon her death to build something of “beauty.” The socialist-themed murals on the inside depicting life during the Great Depression were a subject of controversy at the time, reminding me of the Diego Rivera murals in Detroit.
