Ottawa is a vast expanse of suburbia and farmland awaiting redevelopment into more suburban homes. Logically, it has an equally expansive greenbelt managed by the National Capital Commission full of trails for outdoor activities.

During winter, over a hundred kilometres of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails are maintained for citizens to enjoy. These trails turn into cycling and hiking trails in the summer.

Mer Bleue is a swampy lake in the middle of the Ottawa bog. A boardwalk makes it easy for families with strollers to enjoy nature’s beauty. Parts of the trail are on pontoons floating on top of the lake. Along the way, signs guide your visit and teach you about local biodiversity and species of plants and animals.

If you’re lucky, you’ll see moose, beavers, frogs, and birds in the park while you picnic in the gazebo near the entrance. Leave your dogs in the car to preserve the flora and fauna.
