The oldest Lighthouse on Prince Edward Island is Point Prim Lighthouse built in 1845. It’s 60 feet tall and a $5 fee will let you climb up to the top. It’s 20 feet wide at the bottom by narrows to just 10 feet at the top, so extremely fat people better not attempt the ascent.

The ground floor has exhibition panels on the history of the lighthouse. The second floor has a variety of Fresnel lamps and an excellent explanation of the physics of reflection and refraction. The third and fourth floors are the lighthouse keeper’s quarters, and the top is a modern lamp.

The lighthouse only serves as an auxiliary navigational aid in the age of satellite maps, but the coast guard still does annual inspections to ensure that the lamp works.
