The Pont do Gard is a majestic aqueduct that the Romans constructed to supply the city of Nîmes with water for its baths and fountains. It is one of the most well-preserved examples of Roman aqueducts there are outside of Italy. The arches are so large that you could fit a two-lane road through them and still have space to spare for a pair of sidewalks.

It crosses over the River Gardon, from which the bridge section of the aqueduct receives its name. Visitors like to bathe in the river in summer as it is partially shaded from the sun depending on the time of day and the views are really quite pleasant. You can walk across the river on the ancient aqueduct, which makes the whole experience even more authentic.
