The Rheinfall is Europe’s most powerful waterfall. It sits in the middle of the River Rhine between the Swiss cantons of Zürich and Schaffhausen. The town of Neuhausen is split by the Rhine and there are three railway stations bearing the name of the town. It’ll be a bit of a walk if you get to the wrong station.
There’s a little castle on the Zürich side of the falls, accessible by a pedestrian bridge from the Schaffhausen side. There’s a restaurant and a beautiful patio serving grossly overpriced food to tourists. Even the ice cream stand nearby is eager to rip people off.
Personally, I think the Schaffhausen side of the fall is better than the Zürich side. Zürchers might disagree, but I’d say that’s like saying the American side of the Niagara Falls looks better than the Canadian side. Germany is nearby, but not close enough to catch a glimpse of the mighty falls.
