Right on the short of tri-national Lake Constance, Romanshorn is Switzerland’s gem of the lake. It’s no match for Germany’s bustling Konstanz or Austria’s festive Bregenz, but it is an important gateway for the Swiss to enjoy the lake.

The ferry pier at Romanshorn is just a stone’s throw away from its train station, offering a direct water connection to Friedrichshafen in Germany. The ferry is able to carry both passengers and vehicles and has a lovely galley in the upper deck for snacks and drinks. The international lake crossing is included in the network of the Swiss travel system.

There are two museums right by the ferry pier dedicated to the history of the harbour. The St. Johannes Catholic Church is a national heritage site. Just 200 meters opposite the church is the Hotel Schloss, a castle converted into a 4-star hotel directly on the shore of Lake Constance.
