The building doesn’t have much in it, just a few models of old shops with displays telling visitors about the role of each type of ship in history. San Francisco sees heavy maritime traffic from trade, tourism and military vessels alike.


Entry to the building is free but you’ll have to fork up to visit any of the schooner if you don’t already have a National Parks Pass. I think the SS Jeremiah O’Brien is more interesting than any old ship, so I’d suggest spending your money there instead. There are only two liberty ships left, but you can go to most large port cities and board a 19th century wood vessel.
