This small city in Ontario has a surprisingly large three-story museum. There’s an exhibition on the contributions people in the region have made to war efforts, but I didn’t get to see it because it was being rearranged.
Upstairs on the second floor, there’s a gallery on the history of Algoma County. It tells the story of the development of a city far from any other major population centre. Fashion, education, toys, government, and other aspects of home life throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Some of the story is shared with the community across the border in the River of History Museum in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
The third floor is all about sports, maritime trade, and music. While the museums on the Michigan side focus on history, this one sets itself apart with modern cultural artifacts. My only regret is discovering the elevator only after I’ve walked up the third floor.
