Comfort
The seat is over a decade old and its age shows. The buttons look tired and there are crumbs stuck in crevasses everywhere. My seat 4A was a single seat at the bulkhead directly behind first class, so it came with a $239 surcharge on top of the ticket price. I get two side tables instead of one and a full-width leg rest. The forward business class mini cabin only has 10 seats and is a nice place to be.
The Victorinox-branded amenity kit included earplugs, an eye mask, socks, lip balm, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
In-flight entertainment
Noise-cancelling earphones are included, but the screen is so small it’s almost not worth watching anything on it. There is free Wi-Fi for messaging and sending pictures to friends and family, but any real internet connectivity will cost 35 francs for four hours or 45 francs for the whole flight.
Food
Swiss and its parent company Lufthansa offers meal preordering when flying out of one of their hubs. I had slow-cooked beef as a starter, nibbled on the cheese, and enjoyed the veal and rösti for lunch. The sauce on the real was quite salty, but paired well with the rösti.
The drinks list is about average with highlights of Swiss wines and aperitifs. It’s very hard to find Swiss wine anywhere outside Switzerland. The dessert, tart with pistachio cream, was heavenly, and I could have as much Mövenpick ice cream as I wanted afterwards.
Service
A welcome drink of Pflauder or champagne was served. Having lived in Switzerland, I naturally chose the Pflauder. Flight attendants were attentive from takeoff to landing. As soon as I woke up from my nap, I was offered ice cream and whiskey.
The flight was diverted to Quebec City due to poor weather at Montreal where the crew timed out. Flight attendants offered drinks and snacks while passengers were stuck on the plane on the ground for several hours.
