Transit Maps of the World

By Mark Ovenden

Cataloguing an extensive collection of the world’s metro maps, Transit Maps of the World was the perfect buy for train lovers like me. I love travelling around the world to see local transport networks and how they serve as the vital backbone for moving a city’s inhabitants.

Complete with metro, tram, and light rail maps the book even has a period-accurate list of urban railway systems that are under planning or under construction. Although the third edition that I have was published in 2015 and the maps are a little outdate by now, the histories that are chronicled in its pages are still a useful reference.

If any city wants to make the case for building or expanding their urban railway network, look no further than the convincing case of hundreds of other cities that have experienced success with their systems. As the population increases and cities get denser, public transportation is the only efficient method of moving large populations in tight quarters in an environmentally friendly fashion.
