Unibroue Blanche de Chambly

Appearance – 6/10, the cloudy beer has foam that dissipates quickly

Taste – 4/10, the odd nasal notes of corn and a metallic taste in the mouth even though it came from a glass bottle is odd to say the least. It’s in between sweet and sour.

Texture – 5/10, it has a consistency that’s easy to drink, but it doesn’t make up for its odd flavour

Unibroue claims wheat and citrus, but neither were present in the bottle we tested. You’d want your food to wash the weird taste away from this unique brew.

Unibroue Raftman

Appearance – 5/10, the color makes it look like a red, but the lack of foam and bubbles makes it look naked

Taste – 1/10, it’s got a strange metallic smell even though it comes from a glass bottle, the strong smoked malted flavour makes it taste too raunchy for most people

Texture – 5/10, it goes down easy as long as you’ve lost your sense of taste

There’s no caramelized apple that Unibroue claims it has. Unless you’re a big fan of malted drinks, I’d stay away from Raftman. Imagine you let your wife run the barbecue but she burned it, you still have to eat it and tell her she did a good job.

Unibroue Maudite

Appearance – 6/10, the color is a bit too brown to look tasty, but the foam made up for it

Taste – 9/10, strong spiced and malted flavours with a hint of caramel at the nose, it’s bitterness is well-balanced with the heat down the throat

Texture – 8/10, it’s slightly dry with a heavy body that matches its taste

It has a variety of flavours takes a while to absorb. It’s a nice beer to sip alone after work to enjoy all the aromas it offers.

Unibroue Fin du Monde

Appearance – 7/10, it looks in between a red and a pilsner, makes you want to find out want it’s like

Taste – 7/10, it’s like a black box – it doesn’t smell like anything, but the smoked grains and light bitterness explides as soon as you sip

Texture – 5/10, it has a balanced dryness but could have scored higher with more substantial carbonation

The spice and grains are rich throughout, but the fruits that it claims to have are nowhere to e found. It would be a good match for someone who enjoys a dark grain flavour. A good match for a variety of dine-in meals at nice restaurants.

Unibroue Trois Pistols

Appearance – 8/10, it’s labelled as a dark, strong ale and it definitely looks the part

Taste – 9/10, it doesn’t smell like anything at first, but then dark rum comes to mind in this malty drink with a chocolatey aftertaste

Texture – 8/10, very velvety and sweet for a dark beer, so well-balanced that it easily masks the 9% alcohol content

It’s a well-rounded beer that you would be proud to recommend at any fancy restaurant. It’s so smooth you could mistake this for a badly malted soft drink.

Unibroue Terrible

Appearance – 8/10, the dark color communicates its strong flavour and high alcohol content

Taste – 9/10, it’s rich with malted flavours and a sweet aftertaste of dark fruit

Texture – 6/10, the initial impression is a smooth beer. You can tell they’re trying to mask the alcohol, but 10.5% is hard to hide

It looks dark, is labelled as being dark, and tastes dark. It’s the closest thing beer can get to wine. It needs to use some of that richness in flavour to hide the strong alcohol volume, otherwise it’s an excellent beer for a smoky outdoor meal.
