For someone who used to work at UNOG, the tour is more of the same bullshit. Unfortunately, it’s the only way to get public access to a different UN office. The New York location is political with the General Assembly and Security Council as its most powerful organs. The Geneva office takes care of humanitarian, development, and human rights.

The highlights of the well-structured tour are visits to the main halls where decisions are deliberated. For those visits to go well, make sure to visit either on the weekend or when the UN isn’t in session. Those dates coincide with major holidays, are sure to book tours early in the morning to avoid the huge line at security.
