The University of Waterloo near downtown Waterloo, Ontario, was a child of an affiliate of Western University before it became its own thing to train engineers after the Second World War. Its technical programs were advanced for the 1960s when it became one of the first Canadian universities to establish a computer science program. The Dana Porter Library is the iconic ice cube in the middle of campus, where the sign is.

A good university always has a museum attached to it, such as UBC’s Beaty Biodiversity Museum and McGill’s Redpath Museum. Waterloo has three museums; the Earth Sciences Museum, the Museum of Vision Science, and the Museum and Archive of Games. All three are free, but at that price none of them are worth visiting. The Ken Seiling Museum is a much better place to visit in Waterloo.
