Though Uber is a luxury for many, I found one specific situation where Uber was necessary. I was on my way home on a Friday evening from the airport after spending almost a whole work week in Toronto for meetings and dinners, and had another morning departure to Toronto the following Monday morning to speak at a conference.

While I was on the plane, a friend texted that she would like me to buy some Goldfish cheddar crackers for her daughters when I visited her in Edinburgh shortly after my upcoming trip to Toronto. I already had plans to sleep all day on Saturday and recover my energy on Sunday, so I didn’t have the physical energy to scour the best deal for children’s snacks across three supermarkets.

Luckily, I still had a 40% off deal for Uber Eats grocery delivery, so I managed to get 19 bags of Goldfish cheddar for less than $40, including delivery and the tip, from a dollar store. This was a better deal, as I later found out, than if I had bought it at Walmart.

My Uber would bring me home at around 7:30 pm, so a delivery of Goldfish cheddar that arrived at around 8:00 pm would be perfect. I ordered while I was on the ride and had enough time to unpack and sort my dirty laundry before the cheese crackers arrived at my doorstep. I went to bed by 10:00 pm and didn’t worry about the crackers anymore. After all, I was going to stay for free in Edinburgh, $39 of crackers is the least I could do.

I slept a solid 12 hours and woke up at 10:00 am the next morning. The delivery, not having to carry my suitcases on the slow airport train and lug my bags up the hill to my home was worth using the app. Heck, I expensed the Uber ride and lost no money on the Goldfish cheddar.

I’ll do it again if the price is right.
