Hong Kong has an issue with its discriminatory mindset and its not very often brought up in conversation. Although there may not be racial discrimination on the surface of day-to-day interactions with different people, there does seem to be a preference or some sort of ranking in terms of race. This might be due to the legacy of colonialism that put white people on the top of the ladder.

Some of the people that I know have an unverified assumption that all white people are rich and a superiority bias for white folks. Then, since the post-colonial days, many south Asian residents have taken to menial labor and have been seen as of a lower social standing. Vivek’s comedy often revolves around his challenges as a brown guy in a yellow man’s world and I admire his tenacity on the subject of racial discrimination in Hong Kong. He is able to bring up an uncomfortable subject and turn it into the focus of a constructive discussion.
