Travelling between Luzern and St. Gallen several times a day, the Voralpen express is the perfect connection from the Luzern-Interlaken Express. Be sure to catch one of their new FLIRT series trains that feature broken doors and broken vending machines.
Everything was so broken that the train didn’t even go all the way to St. Gallen, passengers need to catch a replacement Post Bus from Herisau to St. Gallen to complete the last stretch of the trip.
In my opinion, the view along the Voralpen Express is better than the view on board the Gotthard Panorama Express. It goes along the mid-level of a valley instead of at the bottom of the valley to offer passengers a commanding view of the settlements along the route. It’s got lakes and mountains but don’t expect to be able to see snow in the summer, it’s simply not high up enough.
