Some say there’s a conspiracy theory behind its mysterious motifs, some say that it’s a Freemasons symbol, but I think it’s a great historical attraction to visit. Be sure to book you tickets early with the National Parks Service online to avoid disappointment. The tickets are free but there is a small delivery charge for the tickets to be sent to an address outside of the US. The glass elevator inside takes you up the 555-foot tall monument with a guide showing you all 50 special stones sent in from all 50 states of America. It is a stately symbol of American unity regardless of when the states were incorporated into the country.
While at the top you can stay for as long as you like and take in all of the capital. If you’re in a rush, just come to the Washington Monument to see the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, MLK Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Pentagon, Capitol Hill, the White House, the US Supreme Court, and the Watergate Complex all in a matter of minutes.
I’ve been told that the tip of the monument is actually metallic instead of stone, but I couldn’t tell from all the way down there. Maybe you’ll have better luck than me.
