Comfort
Although WestJet brands this as premium economy, the seat is basically equivalent to North America business class on Air Canada or domestic first class on United Airlines. The stitched diamond pattern gave the seat fabric a firmer structure and the winged headrests were comfortable for sleep. Some of the older planes had premium seats retrofitted, so the air nozzles and reading lights don’t always line up perfectly.
In-flight entertainment
WestJet does not offer seat back screens on domestic flights, but it does offer paid in-flight wi-fi. My WestJet credit card came with 10 wi-fi passes a year to use on flights and it was adequate. I was able to check my email, upload and download photos, and find information on the internet.
Food
Canadian carriers have a special relationship with food. I have also flown WestJet premium on Thanksgiving that same year and got turkey and mashed potatoes. Even on “normal” days, the food is as delicious as Air Canada’s award-winning domestic business class. The food is served on china with metal cutlery and comes with a vegetarian starter, a hot main, a bread roll, and a desert.
Service
A bottle of water welcomed me to the seat so I could hydrate myself as soon as I boarded. The flight attendant made sure to keep my wine glass full and let me drink (and have as many snacks) as I wanted.
