Wolfe Island is the largest of the Thousand Islands. Like Amherst Island and Howe Island, there’s a dedicated ferry service to get residents and visitors there. Unlike those other islands, the Wolfe Island ferry is free of charge and operated by the Government of Ontario from Kingston.

I wanted to see Big Sandy Bay Beach, Nine Mile Point Lighthouse, and Port Metcalfe Lighthouse. Big Sandy Bay Beach was behind a row of private residences with big No Trespassing signs and no apparent path to drive in, Nine Mile Point Lighthouse on Simcoe Island has a ferry that operates on demand from Wolfe Island but the official hotline to call the operator wasn’t connected, and the only way to Port Metcalfe Lighthouse was via a private road.

The only thing I got to see was the massive wind farm. I don’t think the island of 1,400 is aiming to attract tourist dollars. The people seem nice enough but there’s just nothing to see that’s accessible to the general public.
