Route: Calgary to Vancouver
Plane: A320-200, ex-Alaska Airlines
Date: Jan 10, 2025
Price paid: $242 + $150 eUpgrade, including a previous flight in business class from Ottawa

Comfort

Four retired Alaska Airlines A320-200s made their way to Air Canada’s fleet in mid-2023. As of 2025, Air Canada still hasn’t refurbished the plane, so the cabin marketed as business class is actually Alaska’s first class product.

The brown leather armchairs are slightly wider than the usual grey cloth seats on Air Canada’s business class. The cupholder in the centre armrest is recessed so bottles of water won’t fly backwards at takeoff. However, there’s no dedicated laptop storage space and the seat legs don’t split legroom 50-50.

In-flight entertainment

There’s no seat back entertainment screen in any cabin class, but there is wifi to play movies on your own device. Texting and messaging is free. Each seat has one three-pin outlet and one USB-A port.

Food

I enjoyed snack service and a drink on the short flight. Nothing to write home about.

Service

The flight attendant for my section was attentive, courteous, and found time to provide two snack and two drink services even on this short flight with all 12 seats occupied.
