CRH train

Father and I went to Shanghai in 2015 and we agreed that we should totally try out the more or less complete CRH network. The stations were huge and disorienting non-places with plenty of shops and waiting areas. It felt more like an airport than a train station. The train left the station two minutes late, but arrived two minutes early at our destination. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the train management system!

Clean interior of the train

Inside, the train was equipped with a buffet car selling various local snacks and mini TV screens throughout the carriages to provide a basic level of entertainment: national TV. The seats on the trains had power sockets, seat back tables and were reversible so passengers were always facing the direction of travel. Maybe Amtrack still has a thing or two to learn about railways, after all, American rail was built by the Chinese.
