The city of Montreal was named after Mount Royal. If you say it fast enough and corrupt it with a semi-French accent you’ll eventually hear the resemblance. It’s location in the centre of Montreal Island makes it the Central Park of Montreal.
It’s a favourite leisure destination of locals in every season. Cycling and running are common during warmer summer months while sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing are common when winter conditions set in.

Parking is tight especially when the weather is nice, but I find that it’s generally easier to park in winter than summer. You could save money by just paying for a couple of hours of parking, but I’d recommend getting the full-day rate to explore the whole park.
There are two main observations areas. The one on the top of the hill looks east towards downtown much like Victoria Peak in Hong Kong whereas the second one is midway downhill looking north. The best southerly view is from the St. Joseph’s Oratory at the foot of the hill.
