The second largest city in Saskatchewan is connected to the provincial capital Regina via the Louis Riel Trail, named after the Manitoba politician that was executed for treason after his defeat in the North-West Rebellion. The native prairie people have lived here for over 6,000 years and the federal government is applying for UNESCO designation for a plot of land near the city.

The Remai Modern is an excellent free gallery to look at Metis art and the Western Development Museum is a great place to start discovering the frontier as it was seen a hundred years ago. Unless you’re into potash mining or geology, you’re better off spending the rest of your day in Regina.
