Up front: The first model year of the drastically updated classic Smart by Mercedes-Benz has more room in the passenger compartment. Elbows no longer bump into each other, the gear shifter is no longer too close to my body, and the windscreen is at a comfortable distance from my face. The seats and materials feel like they come from a public bus, but that’s okay, this is the kind of car meant to replace your trips on the public bus.
In the back:
Driving: It feels a lot larger on the inside than it looks on the outside, but one failing is its boxy shape, which makes it feel a lot more cumbersome to park. It’s terrible on the highway at anything above 80km/h because the wind noise will deafen you and the lightweight car will feel like it’s lifting off to the moon. If you won’t go there with a first-generation Nissan Leaf, don’t try it with this.
