It’s a small museum in Mount Airy, NC about actor Andrew Griffith’s life. He grew up in the town and filmed the Andy Griffith Show here, which is where Mayberry is based on. It’s mostly on the Andy Griffith Show with the original courthouse signs, desk, and clothes, but there are also exhibits on Griffith’s other shows like Matlock and the movies he had been a part of.
The museum is truncated into two parts, the main building and a lower level in the arts centre adjacent to it. There are exhibits on other actors too like Otis the twin drunk, Barney the deputy sheriff, and the Pyle brothers that ran the gas station. Mayberry was the town that nobody had been to but everybody missed.
