Austin, 90 minutes south of Minneapolis, is most well known to be the birthplace of Hormel’s Spam meat invented by George A. Hormel in 1937. His house is now a museum. Along with the Spam Museum, these two locations are the biggest tourism draws to the town.
Parking is free everywhere, which makes it easy to explore the main streets without walking too much. Even if you have to walk the town isn’t that big anyways, it’s only a couple of blocks by a couple of blocks. Be sure to check out the Spam Museum’s list of local restaurants serving Spam to get the full culinary experience.
