Chicago skyline from the river

Chicago – I visited just in time for the annual Taste of Chicago festival where there was free entry and a variety of delicious food in small taster portions at reasonable prices. Of course I had to try two different flavours of deep dish pizza! Man, deep dish pizza is too good I could only take a slice and a half. The crispy, spongy bread soaked in oil is topped off with a variety of tomato sauce, melted cheeses, and savoury meats. Not to mention the charcoal grilled BBQ chicken drumstick was also a hit at the festival!

The rather frequent and inexpensive elevated train makes navigating Chicago without a car a breeze, especially when there are roadworks going on all year long. A visitor most definitely has to visit the shiny bean and take a selfie on its curving reflective surface, it’s a bit like a hall of mirrors if you’d ask me. Then head out to the river to see both shiny glass-walled and traditional granite faced buildings stand-off to one another.

The bus (or free seasonal trolley line) will shuttle you to Navy Pier in a matter of minutes. Not only are there public restrooms, but you can also have more food, visit a museum, and ride on a Ferris wheel all right by the lakefront. When you’re done, appreciate the finer things in life by visiting one of the art galleries, or just kick back and have another deep dish pizza at Giordano’s.
