If you want to fall in love, the 36 questions that lead to love are terrible at doing that. I suspect that the online videos showing people falling in love after answering the questions are only doing it for show. But the questions are a great way to get to know your friends and have them open up into their past. I’ve used it to endure the drive to Squamish and keep myself awake in dark Arctic winters.

So smooth!

Today, I went ice skating and had had the opportunity to have a long session of undistracted thought. I haven’t been ice skating for almost five years, but as Heidi says:

“Ice skating is like riding a bike, you never really forget” ~ Heidi

After I got to grips with the texture of the ice I glided around the rink seemingly aimlessly. Heidi came up and asked if I was alright after a few minutes. I was alright, I was only thinking about what the ice reminded me of. Then one of the 36 questions came to mind: Question 7, do you have a hunch about how you will die?

“Yes, I’ll probably die on some ill-advised adventure in a desolate corner of the world.”

This answer closely reflects my desire to explore, to learn more, and to live life to the fullest without regretting a lost opportunity. Whether it’s a spontaneous trip to see a stunning sunset in West Vancouver or acting on the dream of riding across European borders on two wheels or cycling down across the US border if an idea comes to mind I’ll make it happen if time allows.

I’ve had friends tell me that I live a crazy life and getting the “why are you everywhere?” question all the time. I tell you the truth (Jesus says that a lot), once I started acting on my dreams and meeting likeminded people, I’ve discovered that there are a lot of people who live even crazier lives. The great thing about meeting these people is that we’re not competing to be the crazier person, we meet, we chat, and we share stories to inspire others.

Sometimes, if an adventure is not for you then listening in and learning isn’t a bad idea, but if you hear something you want to do they are always happy to give you advice on how to stay safe and do it for cheap. Where do I meet people like this? Sometimes I meet them on the Couch Surfing community and other times its friends or friends, I never say no to a friendly introduction.

It less a “been there, done that” mentality and more of a “I wonder what that is?” train of thought. I always find the urge to find things out for myself and dig deeper in search of an authentic experience. I’ve celebrated national days in Poland, Germany, Canada, the US, and a bunch of other places, these festivals always come with community events where you can learn more about their heritage. There are the native reservations I’ve visited to understand the impact of European occupation of North America. I always ask myself why and set out to find out.

One of these days my curiosity is going to get me killed. Curiosity killed the cat. Meow.
