Food stall

In the northern area of West Malaysia and near the Thai border, Georgetown is just 2 hours away from Ipoh and 4 hours from Kuala Lumpur by train to Butterworth. Georgetown has a lot of traditional southeast Asian cuisine such as glass noodles, rice noodles, honey glazed pork jerky, fried fishballs, laksa, satay, you name it! There are also other activities to do on the island of Penang.

One of the many murals

Take a scenic drive around the island and up to the peaks to for beautiful view of the towns below. Each of the towns also seem to have some sort of street market with local sellers hawking everything from silk scarves to leather handbags. Look closely at the walls of the old town area and you might see some of the many creative wall murals. Head out to the waterfront area to visit one of the floating settlements of water people.
