I was excited to visit the International Civil Rights Museum, but it’s a waste of time if you ask me. The whole thing takes two hours and most of it is a guided tour or video of a guided tour, the contents of which you could watch at home on your television. The main exhibit is the seats in the Woolworth’s lunch counter where there were sit-ins, but Raleigh is where it really kicked off. The Greensboro History Museum has a section of that counter with free admission. I’d save two hours and $20.

Greensboro was known as Gate City after the war because many railroads from the northeastern U.S. passed through the city on their way to the South. Today, only five trains in each direction call at the station daily.
